I can agree with some of you that so far we have not seen some "good football" but I have no doubt that is still to come. We have to understand that every single team and every single player has to do everything possible not to receive a goal. At this stage of the competition that is more important, than to score. Lost game is the nail in the coffin, and tie still gives the chance to a team. All the teams that had a tie in the first game will be much much more agressive on their second game. I still think that best game so far was Argentina - Nigeria
I am enjoying all the games, because I am watching 32 best national teams in the world

I guess if you are busy watching football (soccer) these days, You might be a trader.

EEMEA MIDDAY: Sentiment Continues to Improve, Spreads Tighten LONDON, June 14 (IFR)-The sentiment continues to improve with credit spreads tighter this morning. Although trade volumes remain thin, with lack of selling dominating the London trading floors in what is a typical Monday lethargy, most of the market players` attention is turned to South Africa as the World Cup 2010 continues.
Football matches in South Africa are competing for investor attention with many of them following the sporting event while some blue chip names could potentially print their deals this week if the tone continues to improve.

I don't think that Green (England) will be the only one extending his stay in S.A., Kuzmanovic (Serbia) will keep him company.

Germany-Australia 2:0 in 26th minute. This game looks like disaster for Australia so far....

In case that England don't pass the first round, what is highly unlikely, I think that Green, English goalie, should stay in South Africa for extended period of time , for his own safety.
I would say that England did not show their best performance, while US team had solid game, and with a little bit of luck, it could pass the first round.

Argentina-Nigeria, the best game of the world cup so far.......

Ashraf,

in one of your interviews recently ( I think Austalia CNBC) you were mentioning about dangers of rising CPI in China. Today I see it printing 3.1%, what is above expectations, and according to the interview it could very likely trigger tightening in Chinese policy. I understand your theory how it would impact the world economy, but how fast could China go into action ??? I'm I right assuming that Aussie & Kiwi would be it's first victims ?

Thank You

In Thread: CHF
I knew that SNB is buying a lot of Euros, but this piece from DJ shocked me. It clearly redefined the word "commitment" and my understanding of it, and also in how much truble can you get in with "commitment".
I like the part that says" buying Euro, all day, every day"........

The SNB publicly opposes excessive strength in the Swiss franc, but never comments on day-to-day speculation that it has been supporting the euro against the franc. Still, following on from last year's series of aggressive interventions to weaken the franc, traders say that the central bank has been actively buying euros against the franc all day every day for months, seeking to prevent a rapid fall.

Earlier this week, the cost of those efforts became clear when it emerged that the central bank's foreign-currency reserves had soared by CHF78.8 billion ($68 billion) in May alone, taking the total to CHF232 billion.

To put that in context, that monthly accumulation represents around 15% of the entire Swiss gross domestic product. The amount is "of the same magnitude that China was seeing during the height of its campaign last year to stop the yuan breaking out of its range," said Derrick at the Bank of New York Mellon. The surge is bigger than any accumulation by Russia, while Japan's biggest-ever reserve jump was only slightly bigger--a $74 billion rise in April 2008.

To be sure, Switzerland's reserves are dwarfed by China's $2.4 trillion total--the biggest in the world. But they are now bigger than most in Europe; only oil-rich Norway and Russia have a larger hoard. As a proportion of GDP, Swiss reserves are now around the same size as China's, and are twice as large as those in Japan, according to Brendan Brown, an economist at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities International PLC.

The pace of accumulation is key. Analysts agree that without this euro-buying splurge, the 16-country currency would almost certainly now be a good deal weaker against the dollar, where it currently trades close to a four-year low, and against the yen, where it is near to its recent eight-and-a-half-year low.

French loss against China should be a reminder that no game can be taken litely.
They should take Spain as an example how to strike fear in upcoming opponent 6:0 against poland

Ashraf, Great idea, love it

I just read your tweet about Spanish soccer team. I am not sure is that action suppose to inject confidence in a team, or to let them know that they will not tolerate failure.
I like many teams, but I will pick Spain as a winner of Africa 2010.
