Vote: JPY

Equity markets are overbought and sure to hit headwinds in the coming year which will benefit the Japanese Yen.

|Lets face it whatever happens in greece euros will still circulate as a defacto currency even after grexit or even after whatever the government issues as an alternative.Euro is looking for a bottom and a bit of stability, low euro is very good for the euro ecconomies, most of which are now starting to do well as a result.I am in spain at the moment and have not seen it this upbeat for years!

Cancellation of the construction of "The Pinnacle" high rise office block in london because of failure to secure clientele, the closure of the comet stores, several thousand laid off at UBS London office, salary cuts across the city,lay-offs at GM plants, the fundamentals of UK ecconomy looking very weak to me and only buoyed up by sky high real estate market being put beyond most peoples reach by foreign buyers who will run at the scent of a possible labour victory as election year gets closer. Think the pound got some legs on the back of weak yen and US fiscal cliff anxiety but am looking for it to show signs of overextension soon and start going short for long term play.GB"old grey" your right GBP/CHF is a very good indicator of real sterling strength and look where that is going ??

Beyond the long term big picture of debasement of the major fiat currencies by money printing gold is generally a very seasonal beast and now is actually the low season. The wedding season in south asia starting end october to the spring when coupled with the chinese new year is usually the time of highest demand and price. Now we have gold at $1,760 before its peak season even begins ,think it could touch $2000 around xmas and could pop above that if a perfect storm of middle eastern problems arise.Longer term as long as the printing presses are rolling all over the world gold is supported so we are not at the end of the cycle yet even though gold is looking expensive.

Greece is the worddd !!!! Well we got the catalyst for a break of 1.5600 as the central banks and governments start putting up the sandbags, very tricky with all this talk of intervention, still generally bearish and GBP is over extended already but won"t take position this late on a friday especially this one!!!

Yeh right a good run but now three failures to break 1.5600,not good and unless there is a fundamental catalyst to push it through think cable is going down to test 1.5400 in coming week,if there is more bad news and that fails to support we are looking at 1.5315/30 area to support.

Sorry, meant 1.5550 if Gbp breaks 1.5420,gold and retail associated with jubilee/wimbledon/olympics could support sterling going forward.
