Ghana and Uruguay were just better teams in today matches (or they just prepared better for this particular game)

In the matches to come most people see a clear winner, based on stereotypes and entrenched notions like Argentina plays better football than Mexico, Brazil plays better vs. Chile and so forth, but look at the surprise teams on previous world cups.
1994- 3rd -Bulgaria- no one saw it coming
1998- 3rd -Croatia-no one saw it coming
2002 -3rd-Turkey-no one saw it coming
2006-were the usual suspects 1- Italy 2-France 3-Germany 4-Portugal (surprise- not a shock)

I guess 2006 was the odd year in modern soccer, so my question is, who can guess the dark horse this time? Ghana?Uruguay?Slovakia?Chile?Mexico?

my guess is Uruguay....... or maybe..............Slovakia.....

one more try

Dutch soccer team has ORANJE color indicating tulips, and they start their season and qualifications in September, Tulips bloom in spring some, but very rarely in summer. Season for planting new tulips in beginning to the "middle of September".

Collapse of the Lehman brothers was accelerated from beginning to the "middle of September", just in time to plant new tulips (bubble)

I guess I just expended the Stationdealer answer

answer on you riddle -Lehman B. and Holland soccer team-

Fuld had an offer from the Korean Development bank, but it failed to recognize the urgency, he was too greedy. He was hoping that B of A or even Barcley's would come with better price, and on the end he was hopping that government would bail them out (just like they did Bear Stearn) He thought he has time to deal, but he did not have that luxury, on the bitter end, on weekend of Sept. 15, H. Paulson told his "lieutenants" that Fuld wasted so many opportunities. ( Fuld was not allowed on meeting at treasury)

Bert van Marwijk thinks that he has time, so he does not need Robben from the beginning of the game or even worse, he does not recognize the danger, but when "moment of need" comes, it just might be too late. (nobody can score at a comment, they need some "time")
Bert still has time, and someone should really tell him the story of Lehman, and how they were wasting precious resource "time" -"Robben"

:)

SLOVAKIA, SLOVAKIA, SLOVAKIA, SLOVAKIA, SLOVAKIA
pheeeewwwwwuuueeeeeee that was one exciting game. Congratulations ..... that was well deserved
It was clear from the beginning that Slovakia has the eagerness to win the game. Italian players were passive throughout most of the game, It looked like somebody gave them some super powerful red bull on the last 15min. Commentators on ESPN were so excited with the twists on the match that one said for Italy " it was little too much , too late"
I have to say that in the last few minutes of the game I was not sure about Slovakia win. I had flashbacks from US-Algeria match.
EVERYBODY should take a lesson from that match. " it ain't over 'till it's over"

we have 4 exciting games coming. I will be playing close attention to Spanish team.

I was disappointed in some matches and pleased in other ones, but either way I believe that everybody that loves soccer had opportunity to watch some great football, and in some instances suspense until the last second.
Drama & Fiction of movies would not do any better.

in the games tomorrow I predict a plethora of yellow and red cards. All teams are under extreme pressure. Some want to make up for under-performance and some want to grab the opportunity. It will be interesting to see teams fighting for their "world cup lives".

In case that you are wondering who am I supporting.......... well, it is ALWAYS the underdog, with the exception that I see the Spain as the next world cup Champion.

Portugal - Congratulations.
second goal just killed N.Koreans, and the flood gates opened. Three goals in 7 minutes. WOW. Suddenly everybody in Portuguese team wanted to be on the score sheet. For a while I thought that goalie, Eduardo, is going to join the attack. He was not busy anyway.
In a previous comment I was judging both teams according to their previous performance, but I was wrong.
What a goal-a-thon from Ronaldo and the colleagues.

upcoming matches are Portugal - N.Korea after watching Brazil - N.Korea I think that Ronaldo and colleges will have to work very very hard in order to produce a win, although a expect a tie.
after that I believe we could enjoy Chile win over Switzerland and Spain annihilation of Honduras.

btw. Do you guys think that referee would call for a handball if it was a different player with a different jersey in Brazil-Cote D'ivoire ?
