I agree catnip... We will see clearer in a few months I guess. Maybe they want to keep the Euro low because they know the ECB will hike before the FED (that's what I guess). So the next down leg in the Dollar won't hurt that much, because the US need a weak Dollar in the long run... So just push it down as far as possible...

"Volker Kauder, the parliamentary head of Chancellor Angela Merkels Christian Democratic Union, called for the possible orderly insolvency of European states as consequences follow from the Greek crisis."

This can be taken very negatively by markets and big hedge fund will be ever so opportunist to start sell euro again aggressively

To Ashraf :

With gold just $10 short of touching $1200 price level and DX creating a new high and GBP being lowest its ever been in many many year along with EUR. Does the Gold price action somehow reflected on Dollar, gives you the real value of Dollar. Would like to hear your thoughts on that.

Plus is there a chance that the ECB and BOE may raise interest rates 25bp before the end 3rd quarter.

Could well be but only because no one understands what that statement means. It IS a default or at least restructuring warning but who would do so?
At the moment the market may think it is comedy. It is not banker speak. No banker would say hey you think its bad but I tell you it is beyond worse. So it must be a joke. But perhaps Merkel eventually going to resign ... or is the strategy to confuse the markets ?
