As a counter to comments by Rogoff,23 large infrastructure projects have been annouced to begin this year in various parts of china,"someone was losing face!",which turned around asian markets from earlier losses, still short Euro/jpy with gains presently finding resistence in the 109.80s,Aussie interst rate decision a concern.

Euro had a run down to 1.2480 us / 109.13 jpy but found support corporate and possibly sovereign in early asia despite weak stocks and commodities, aussie trade surplus also helped but that was last year not the coming one.Harvard ecconomics professor Ken Rogoff has been telling the wider world about chinas real estate problems, this and related asian stock and commodity weakness if extending into europe could return the pressure for a stronger run down to test 1.2480us/109.13jpy support, unless there is a shock or hawkish language on aussie rate decision,Ashraf reckons they could cut before Xmas, any dovish language along those lines would further confirm the slow down in china demand/aussie supply nexus which would spread a bit of risk aversion.Gone short 109.50,stop 111.30,for a break of the support.

The most accurate foreign-exchange forecaster says the euro will continue to weaken and may approach parity with the dollar as the European Central Bank buys more government bonds to support the regions economy.

Shaun Osborne, chief currency strategist at TD Securities Inc. in Toronto, said the euro will depreciate to $1.13 in the third quarter, $1.08 by year-end and may near $1 in 2011 before recovering.

Catnip--yes, there is much rot below the surface with the European situation, and things are not being successfully addressed. The key of course is Timing. Traders and investors could continue to stick their heads in the sand for sometime, or one event could precipitate a massive run on the Euro. I am remaining alert, trying to be agile and nimble, and take advantage of short term run ups like the recent one, partly fueled by short covering. But one day the markets will face reality and a huge move may very well occur with rapidity. And of course, one day they will face reality about the US and its money printing as well, but that is another story . . .

problem is who would believe results of bank stress tests?
it is not only troubled assets of Gr Spain etc it is also more trouble: loans to eastern europe countries, to russian oligarchs.... Deutsche Bank is still sitting on a huge packet of Russian shares received as security for loans to an oligarch which didn't perform... and ist desparately trying to talk the price up since. There are more EUR bombs ticking than USD.
Therefore an EUR bull trap must come.
