Hard luck for the Germans who once again did their country proud. Joachim Lo proved as graceful and classy as his predecessor Klinsman. A big future awaits the remarkably young 20-yr old kroos and Jansen. Great decision by Lo to replace Boateng after Pedro almost swept the floor with him.

Pedro was well on his way of becoming the Man of the Match, with each action besting the previous one, until his atrociously selfish (and failed) attempt to score instead of passing it to thw wide open Torres. His immediate substitution was a resounding message, and this may have been his last game of the WCup.

It was good to see Iniesta finally step up his game and turning Lahm around. Also good for Del Bosque to have faith in Torres and putting him in. Xavi showed the world why he would ONLY be substituted in the event that he lost a leg, an arm or an eye. Anybody who has a son or daughter wanting to become a football player, tell them how the combination of selfconfidence (must back it up w/ skill & body control) and collectivity can defeat any machine out there. The Organization and Skill enabled Germany to punish Argentina, while Talent, One-Touch-Football and Constant-Running-off-the-ball lifted Spain above Germany.

Can anybody tell me where did Beckenbauer go? he usually speaks a lot before and after games but his absence ahead of the Spain game has been hugely promiscuous.

Finally, the final will have a remarkable concentration of elite of worldclass midfielders (Xavi Iniesta Villa Sneijder Vanderdart) and not even mentioninbg the obvious forwards.

More later.

Spain was more agile, agressive, and had more shots on goal. I was rooting for Germay, but today Spain was the better team. Their midfield was hard to penetrate, and their forwards were excellent. I think they can take Holland.

Very good sportsmanship, skills, defense by both teams. I thought for sure Trochowski's kick was going in, very close. Second half adjustments, germany needs to find a a way past midfield quicker.

Ashraf has made some v good points. My issue with Spain is their lack of width, everything goes through the middle ( Iniesta and Xavi ) and for a team like Germany it's quite easy to neutralise that point of attack. Furthermore their passing is slow and shouldn't stretch a German team whose positional-play off the ball is v good. Barring Villa they also struggle for goals (Torres has flopped) and Pique is a bit of a liability in the defence along with Capdevila. Then again I have been long Germany since the Argentina game therefore have a vested interest!!

WORLDCUP WATCH: EVALUATING HOLLANDs STRENGTH via its impressiveness is irrelevant in this World Cup because Germany looked anything but impressive against Serbia and Ghana, while Spain was far from it against Switzerland, Chile and Paraguay. Lets not forget that Holland has yet to lose a game in this World Cup and of course readers of this website know that Holland has not lost since September, 6, 2008 (defeat against Australia). Now on to Germany whose performance against Argentina and England was as efficient as it was entertaining. But praising German strength must not be confused with Englands cluelessness and Argentinas midfieldlessness and coachlessness. Both ENG and ARG had serious deficiencies especially Argentina, which managed to impress the inexperienced footballing audience despite erroneous and illegal goals vs. Mexico. SPAIN has beaten GERMANY in two crucial matches (1-0 in Euro 2008 and 2-0 in Euro 1984 semi finals). Without Muller in the front, Germany will still have its fitness, creativity and total football, but Spain is tipped to edge ahead tonight with the more experienced and skillful midefield. Spain supporters, however, ought to wish for no grave errors from Casillas and more aggressiveness from Iniesta.

I have to agree Holland is not playing impressive but playing effective. Here in Holland we are hoping for the final 1974.
Germany is playing indeed impressive tonight the hurdle Spain. Looking forward to the confrontation against Germany

Uruguay Ghana :

In Rugby if that sort of a foul had taken place, A penalty try is given, where the "goal" is given.
That is much more fairer outcome, as the person who did that foul had done so in the hope that penalty will be screwed up, which happpended in the Uruguay and completely changed the out of the Game...

There is things that FIFA can learn from Rugby, eg the video replay, ... "play acting".... time wasting..
