These are profits from banking operations. Read the FED foundation act.

"The U.S. Government receives all of the system's annual profits, after a statutory dividend of 6% on member banks' capital investment is paid, and an account surplus is maintained. In 2010, the Federal Reserve made a profit of $82 billion and transferred $79 billion to the U.S. Treasury."

Appelbaum, Binyamin (March 22, 2011). "Fed Had Profit From Investments of $82 Billion Last Year". The New York Times. Retrieved March 22, 2011.

FED has no obligation to US treasury except to provide cash. FED's profit is FED's nothing of that goes to US treasury.

@jacek: I think SPX will soon thrives to 1300 if bad US data continues :) let's see if that plays. I also see a 5 wave on a hourly chart. This means we could see a pullback before another leg up in the EUR (after summer maybe)

(tremble...sob) all these wrong calls...no one was damn' right CHF long... easy to predict 100% chart-free. No fx robot required. Haven't seen so many short signs for EU in a long time.
Now all those FED gurus are on QE3 . I say they are dead wrong. They confuse the mandate with the FED's biz. The biz is NOT to bolster the economy but to print cash greenbacks for 50 cent a buck and sell it for 20 50 100 dollars. Keep that in mind.
