UK Mortgage Approvals For Home Purchase 36,709 In May

Versus 35,964 in May, slightly higher than median forecast of 36,000. Net mortgage lending +2.552 bln in May vs +1.949 bln in April, highest since February. Good news on housing front.

BOE Agents: Employment Intentions Stable, Pay Growth Ticks Up
LONDON (MNI) Employees are meeting increased demand by raising
existing employees hours or through hiring temporary staff, and private
sector employment is expected to remain stable in coming months,
according to the latest Bank of England Agents Report.
The BOE agents report, accompanying the June Monetary Policy
Committee minutes, found the only exceptions to the broady stable
staffing levels story were in the retail sector, where some major
retailers expected to increase staffing at new stores, and in financial
services, where there has been selective hiring.
The agents said pay growth remained subdued, although it has crept
up.
The BOEs agents said retail sales value growth appeared to have
been steady through the first half of 2010.
Consumer services had remained broadly flat, and the World Cup was
expected to boost sales of some products, notably food and drink.
The agents said housing market activity was also broadly stable.
