I am also slightly puzzled at the rise in gold, plus the fall in AUD/USD while gold has risen.
Granted, USD has been strengthened given the falls in GBP/USD and EUR/USD, but even so ...

I wonder how can price of physical gold fluctuate at all? Physical gold is supposed a real money, not a paper money asset. Imo the sometimes rather heavy fluctuation of gold futures has nothing to do with physical gold but with gold ETFs. You cannot buy physical gold such as bullion or gold coins with a click on the buy button but one can trade ETFs that way. So I think there is far more money going in and out of ETFs than there is supply of physical gold. This adds a lot of volatility to gold futures and trading gold futures becomes more like a lottery because demand supply plays no role anymore. I see a danger if
it turns out some ETFs are fraud i.e. are not backed by physical gold but only by gold futures. Then I think if such fraud is discovered gold futures should crash.

i agree, the longer they hold up the markets the harder it will fall...but at the moment they are able to push it higher..when u have the ability to print tons of money u can afford to inject as much into the markets as u like...like i said this is a wall street recovery an not main street ..the average joe will not see any recovery for a very long time..but wall street don;t need the average joe it only cares about the $$ going into its own poket an could careless about any recovery an obama is the same way..only him an his buddys is what he cares about..gl have a nice weekend
