Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak appointed Omar Suleiman, the countrys intelligence chief, as vice president, a sign he may be prepared to hand over power after five days of violent protests demanding his ouster.

The president appears to be trying to position the country in a way that if he leaves, the country is in the hands of the military and intelligence, said Emad Gad, an analyst at the Al Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies, a Cairo-based research firm. He has to leave or the protests wont stop. But the army will not remove the president.

I think this will calm down for a short time and under violent pressure if Mubarak leaves but it won't last long. Soon enough Ahmadhinejad will join I am afraid... to avoid being ousted himself
